Wrinkle reduction injections for lines
Wrinkle reduction injections to reduce the signs of facial ageing
Ageing affects each person differently, and lines on the face are fairly unavoidable as we get older, but wrinkle reduction injections offer a non-surgical solution to skin concerns including crows feet and frown lines, and remain a very popular aesthetic treatment at Apsaras Clinic in Coventry
Wrinkle reduction injections are more commonly known as muscle relaxing injections, and are made of Botulinum toxin. There are numerous forms of this injectable treatment, although Botox (the leading brand of Botulinum toxin) is considered the most widely prescribed type under this umbrella. Paralysing the injected facial muscles by blocking the electrical impulses from nerves into the muscle, the wrinkle reduction effect is not permanent but will usually last between three to four months.
If used correctly wrinkle reduction injections can have a clear effect on reducing the appearance and production of facial lines, creases and wrinkles with minimal risks and side effects. The intention of treatment is to remove lines whilst retaining facial character and animation. Wrinkle reduction injections – popular with both female and male patients – are effective at reducing lines caused by facial expression, like frown lines on forehead and fine laughter lines around the eyes.
Botulinum toxin also has some indications for use for bands in the neck or around the mouth in some cases. You will need to book a consultation with Dr Thevendra to discover whether wrinkle reduction injections are the right treatment for your facial ageing concerns. In some cases dermal filler treatment may be suggested instead of wrinkle reduction injections.
During wrinkle reduction injection treatment a measured dose of Botulinum toxin is injected into the muscle using a fine needle. It’s important to remember that each area of treatment will require a varying number of injections. While you may notice a sharp sensation initially during wrinkle reduction injection the discomfort will only last a couple of seconds, and an anaesthetic cream can be used to help increase your comfort if necessary.
The treated area after wrinkle reduction injections may appear slightly red for six hours after your treatment and in some cases you may experience some bruising following the anti-ageing treatment. You can reduce the risk of bruising post-wrinkle reduction injection treatment by avoiding aspirin for five days prior to your treatment. It’s also advised patients avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for 24 hours following treatment too.
Temporary weakness of the muscles lifting the upper eyelid is another documented side effect of wrinkle reduction injections but this is extremely rare. Dr Thevendra can explain more to you about the risks and complications regarding this type of anti-ageing skin rejuvenation treatment during your consultation.
The effects of wrinkle reduction injections vary from patient to patient, although most will see changed after three to four days. The full effect of wrinkle reduction injection treatment should be visible around ten days after treatment in most patients. In some cases a top-up treatment is required and you should contact Dr Thevendra’s clinic after a week to ten days if you feel the effect is too weak. Top-up treatments can also help to address any asymmetry, if this is a concern.
The effect of wrinkle reduction injection treatment for lines and crows feet usually lasts for three to four months on average, although this range can extend from two to 6 months in some cases. In most cases, a patient will return for repeat wrinkle reduction injection treatment at four to five monthly intervals.
Wrinkle reduction injections to reduce the signs of facial ageing have been in clinical use for over 30 years, and there are no known long-term harmful effects. It’s unlikely all lines and wrinkles will vanish, and other non-surgical injectable treatments such as dermal fillers may be required to fill deep wrinkles. This will be discussed in depth during your initial consultation after your face is evaluated.
